What's New in Mbox Viewer 2.7.0: Faster, More Private, More Accessible

Mbox Viewer 2.7.0 is a big reliability, privacy, accessibility and speed update — faster on large mailboxes, stronger tracking-pixel blocking, full VoiceOver and keyboard support, and rock-solid handling of huge or malformed files. Still strictly read-only.

Mbox Viewer 2.7.0 is here — and it’s one of our biggest updates yet, even though you won’t find a pile of flashy new buttons. This release is the result of a full audit of the app, focused on the four things that matter most when you’re working through years of archived email: reliability, privacy, accessibility and speed. No new clutter — just a better Mbox Viewer Pro.

As always, the app stays strictly read-only and never modifies your original mailbox.

Faster on large mailboxes

If your archive runs to several gigabytes, you’ll feel this one immediately. Searching is quicker, memory use is lower, and the interface no longer freezes when you open a very large message or run an export. Big Google Takeout .mbox files and multi-gigabyte Apple Mail exports stay responsive from the first click.

More private by default

Your email already never leaves your Mac — and 2.7.0 tightens privacy even further:

  • Remote images (tracking pixels) are blocked more thoroughly, so senders can’t quietly confirm you opened a message.
  • Temporary files are cleaned up automatically, leaving nothing behind on disk.
  • New Settings let you clear your search history and index cache whenever you want.

Accessible to everyone

Accessibility got a top-to-bottom pass in this release:

  • Full VoiceOver and keyboard support, so you can navigate the whole app without a mouse.
  • Adjustable message text size and font, plus better contrast for easier reading.
  • The in-app language picker now lists all 18 languages.

Rock-solid with difficult files

Real-world archives are messy. Mbox Viewer 2.7.0 now handles malformed or oversized MBOX/EML files gracefully instead of freezing or crashing, and when an export or merge can’t complete, you get a clear, specific message instead of a silent failure.

HTML messages, leveled up

HTML emails now show the sender header and quick actions (Export, Print, Share) at the top — exactly like plain-text messages. No more hunting for how to export a rich message; it’s right where you expect it.

Still strictly read-only

None of this changes the core promise: Mbox Viewer opens your archive read-only, works completely offline, and never writes to your original file. Even a single, irreplaceable .mbox is safe.
